Conservatory Cleaning

A clean conservatory is a brighter conservatory — and a brighter conservatory is one you actually want to spend time in. Most domestic conservatories aren't hard to clean, but they get neglected because the roof is awkward to reach and the frames quickly go green if they're not cared for. We specialise in conservatory cleaning across the North East: roof, frames and glass inside and out.

Our approach is purpose-built for conservatories. We never high-pressure-wash polycarbonate or glass roofs — that risks damaging seals and forcing water inside. Instead we use soft washing for the roof and frames, and pure-water poles for the glass. The result is a properly clean conservatory without any risk of leaks or damage.

What we clean

• Polycarbonate roofs — multi-wall plastic roofs typically used on Victorian and Edwardian style conservatories.
• Glass roofs — including self-cleaning glass (which still needs an occasional deep clean).
• Solid (warm) roofs — increasingly common; we wash the exterior tile or shingle finish.
• uPVC frames — frames go green and grey; we soft-wash them back to bright white.
• Aluminium and timber frames — cleaned with appropriate methods.
• Glass panels — pure-water poles for streak-free finish.
• Internal cleaning — we can clean the interior of the roof from below where access permits.
• Capping and finials — small details that make a big difference.

The problem with self-cleaning glass

If your conservatory has self-cleaning glass roofs, you might think they don't need cleaning. They do — just less often. Self-cleaning coatings rely on UV and rainfall to break down organic dirt, but they don't deal with bird droppings, pollen, sap or atmospheric grime indefinitely. After a few years, even self-cleaning glass benefits from a proper soft-wash with a coating-safe detergent.

We use products designed not to compromise the self-cleaning coating, and we keep pressure low so we don't damage seals. The roof comes out brighter and the self-cleaning effect actually works better afterwards because it isn't fighting against years of build-up.

Frame and capping cleaning

uPVC conservatory frames are textured, which is great for grip during installation but a magnet for green algae and dirt. The texture holds onto every airborne contaminant and turns grey-green over a few years, no matter how much you wipe them down. The fix is a soft-wash treatment with a mild detergent and biocide — the chemistry breaks down the algae in the texture and the surface comes back to bright white.

Aluminium frames are easier to clean but can develop a chalky oxidisation; we use specialist aluminium cleaners for this. Timber frames need more careful treatment to avoid stripping the finish.

Glass cleaning — pure water poles

We clean conservatory glass using pure-water poles fed from a deionising tap or a vehicle-mounted system. Pure water has no minerals in it, so it dries to a streak-free finish without any drying-off needed. The brushes on the poles are long enough to reach all roof glass safely from the ground, and the system is gentle on seals and trims.

On a typical conservatory we clean exterior glass top-down, then the frames, then the lower panels. The whole thing dries in 20–30 minutes leaving a finish noticeably better than wipe-and-buff window cleaning.

Algae and lichen

Polycarbonate roofs are particularly prone to a film of green algae that creeps along the seams between sheets. Once established, it spreads quickly and is impossible to wipe off. The biocide in our soft-wash treatment kills the algae at the root — a single visit removes the green and slows regrowth dramatically. Most conservatories stay clean for two years between visits.

Inside cleaning

If you can see the underside of your conservatory roof, you can usually see the build-up of dust, cobwebs and condensation marks on it. Internal cleaning is a separate add-on — we use long-reach extension poles with soft cloths and a glass cleaner to lift dust and condensation marks from the underside. It dramatically improves the light coming through and is well worth doing alongside an external clean.
