Wood Stains and Varnishes
Quality wood stains, varnishes and oils for decking, fences and timber across the North East. Applied after a deep clean.
After cleaning timber — decking, fences, garden buildings, gates — applying a quality stain, oil or varnish locks in the finish and protects the wood for years. We can re-finish almost any timber surface as part of, or after, a clean.
Decking oils. Quality decking oils penetrate the wood and protect from below the surface, leaving the grain visible. Suitable for both softwood and hardwood. Lasts 1-3 years depending on exposure. Brands we use include Osmo, Owatrol, Ronseal Diamond Hard and Cuprinol.
Decking stains. Coloured stains add tone alongside protection — natural, dark walnut, mahogany, teak and others. Lasts 2-4 years on horizontal decking, longer on vertical fencing. Solid colours hide weathered wood; transparent stains let the grain show through.
Fence stain. Same principle as decking stain but typically applied by spray to large fence runs. Quick to apply, dramatic transformation, lasts 2-4 years.
Hardwood oils. Teak, iroko and other tropical hardwoods need oil rather than stain. We use teak oil, danish oil, or hard-wax oils as appropriate.
Yacht varnish. For high-exposure timber needing maximum durability — gates, garden furniture, outdoor handrails. Multiple coats with proper preparation.
Every wood finish we apply is over a properly cleaned and dried surface. We won't apply finish to damp or dirty wood — that locks failure into the surface and gives a poor result.
