Oil Spill Response
Rapid oil spill response across the North East. Vehicle spills, industrial leaks, fuel contamination. Same-day callout. Call 07960 485 880.
Oil and fuel spills don't wait. The longer they sit, the deeper they soak in, the more they spread, and the more expensive they become to deal with. A properly handled spill within hours costs a fraction of one left for days. We provide rapid oil spill response across the North East β vehicle spills on driveways and forecourts, hydraulic and lubricant leaks at industrial sites, heating-oil incidents at homes and businesses, and fuel contamination on tarmac and concrete.
Same-day response is usually possible across the region. We arrive with absorbents, degreasers, hot-water pressure washing and proper waste-handling equipment, and we deal with the spill end-to-end including legal disposal of contaminated materials.
Common spill scenarios we handle
- Domestic heating oil spills β leaking tanks, burst feed lines, delivery overspills
- Vehicle oil and fuel leaks on driveways and car parks
- Hydraulic fluid spills on industrial sites and farms
- Diesel and petrol incidents at forecourts and depots
- Cooking oil and grease spills behind hospitality premises
- Lubricant and gearbox oil leaks at vehicle workshops
- Motorway incident cleanup (subcontracted to us by traffic management contractors)
- Marine and waterway-edge spills with environmental implications
First-response approach
Every spill response starts with containment β stopping the spill spreading is the most important thing. We use absorbent booms, granular absorbents and adsorbent pads to ring-fence the contamination, particularly to keep it out of drains where it could enter watercourses (creating a much more expensive problem). Once contained, we lift the bulk of the contamination with absorbents.
After bulk removal, the residual contamination is treated with hot-water pressure washing and a forecourt-grade degreaser. Hot water makes a huge difference on oil β at 80Β°C the oil viscosity drops and it lifts much more easily than with cold water. We control the wash water carefully so it doesn't enter drains; instead it's collected for legal disposal.
Domestic heating oil incidents
Domestic heating oil (kerosene, also called 28-second oil) spills are particularly nasty for homeowners. A typical 1,000-litre tank leaking even partially can contaminate a sizeable area of garden, soak through tarmac, and migrate towards drains. Heating oil is also genuinely smelly β neighbours notice quickly, and the smell can persist in the home if oil reaches walls or floor cavities.
We respond to heating-oil incidents the same day where possible. We contain, lift bulk oil with absorbents, treat affected hard surfaces with degreaser and hot-water washing, and remove contaminated soil where it's reachable. We can also liaise with your insurer β domestic heating oil incidents are usually covered under buildings insurance, and full ground remediation may be needed for serious spills (we coordinate with specialist environmental remediation contractors for that part).
Industrial and commercial spills
For industrial spills we provide RAMS, COSHH information, and full waste documentation including waste transfer notes for any contaminated materials taken off site. We're insured for Β£5m public liability and we work to spill-response best-practice including the relevant CIRIA guidance.
For sites with potential to spill regularly (vehicle workshops, fuel handling, manufacturing), we can advise on spill kits, bunding, and on-site response procedures. Many ongoing customers retain us on a callout basis with priority response and pre-agreed pricing.
Frequently asked questions
How quickly can you respond?
Same-day response is usually possible across the North East, particularly during business hours. Out-of-hours emergency response is available by arrangement.
Is heating oil cleanup covered by insurance?
Usually yes β most household buildings insurance policies cover heating oil incidents. We can provide quotes and documentation suitable for claims.
Can you handle environmental incidents?
Yes for surface contamination. Major environmental incidents (watercourse contamination, deep ground contamination) need specialist environmental remediation contractors who we can recommend.
Do you remove contaminated materials?
Yes β used absorbents, contaminated soil reachable from surface level, and waste water are all collected and disposed of through licensed waste contractors with full documentation.
