Bird droppings on buildings, signs, statues, walkways and parked cars aren't just unsightly — they're a genuine problem. Pigeon and seagull droppings are highly acidic and damage stone, render, paint and metal if left in place. They're also a health hazard, carrying pathogens including histoplasmosis, salmonella and cryptococcus. Why bird droppings need professional removal

Old bird droppings are stubborn. Once they've dried and weathered, the uric acid component bonds chemically with paint, render and stone surfaces — pressure-washing alone often leaves a shadow stain that won't shift without specialist chemistry. On metal, droppings cause permanent etching if left long enough.

Just as importantly, bird droppings contain pathogens that survive in dried form for months. Disturbing them with a brush or domestic washer aerosolises spores that you really don't want to breathe. We use proper PPE (FFP3 masks, eye protection, disposable suits where needed) and always follow disinfection with a biocide treatment to neutralise pathogens.

Our process

Every job follows the same protocol. We assess the area for any structural damage (acidic etching, corroded metalwork) and report findings. We then pre-treat droppings with a sanitising biocide that softens the deposit and starts neutralising pathogens. After dwell time, we lift the deposits at controlled pressure into a contained collection area for legal disposal — droppings are never just hosed onto the ground or street.

After removal, surfaces are sanitised with a hospital-grade disinfectant. Where appropriate, we can apply hydrophobic coatings to ledges or apply bird deterrent measures (spikes, gel, netting — installed by a specialist partner if needed).

Loft and roof void cleaning

Pigeon infestations in lofts and roof voids are nasty work — typically months or years of accumulated droppings, plus nesting material and sometimes carcasses. We carry out specialist enclosed-space cleans with full PPE, sealed waste removal, and post-clean disinfection. We also recommend follow-up exclusion work to stop re-entry.
