After a few muddy rides — or a long winter of road salt — bikes look terrible, and the drivetrain works terribly too. Cleaning a bike properly takes more than a hose: drivetrain degreasers, the right pressure (low, not high), proper drying and lube. We offer bike cleaning services across the North East for both bicycles (mountain, road, hybrid, e-bike) and motorbikes.
Most bike owners try and clean their own bike at some point and quickly find it's a faff: the kit costs more than expected, garages get covered in grease, and the result is rarely as good as it should be. Drop your bike off with us (or we'll collect, in some areas) and you'll get it back looking and running like new.
Bicycle cleaning
We clean bicycles in three stages. First, the frame and components are pre-treated with a bike-specific spray-on cleaner that loosens mud, grit and road grime. Second, the drivetrain (chain, cassette, derailleur, chainrings) gets a separate degreaser treatment — drivetrain dirt is oily and won't shift with normal cleaner. Third, everything is rinsed at low pressure (high pressure forces water past bearing seals into hubs, headsets and bottom brackets — a classic DIY mistake) and dried.
After cleaning, we relube the chain with a wet or dry lube depending on the season and how you ride. Optional add-ons include bar tape replacement, chain replacement (if it's measured beyond stretch), and tyre pressure check-and-set.
Mountain bikes after a winter
Mountain bikes that have been ridden through a North East winter are usually in the worst state of any bike that comes through. Mud cakes everything, salt corrodes the drivetrain, and bushings and pivots seize up. A proper end-of-winter deep clean is essential and takes longer than a normal clean — typically 1–2 hours per bike including pivot lubrication.
Motorbike cleaning
Motorbikes need a different approach again. The fairings, frame and tank are usually painted or plastic and tolerate hot-water pressure washing with bike-specific shampoo. Wheels and brake calipers need a separate degreaser. The chain, sprockets and engine area need careful detailed work because high pressure can force water into electrics and bearings.
We handle road bikes, sports bikes, adventure bikes and cruisers. Pre-MOT cleans are particularly popular — a clean motorbike is a faster MOT (the tester can actually see the components).
Pickup, drop-off and on-site service
Most customers drop their bike off with us. For a small fee we offer pickup and drop-off in the North East. We can also work on site at your address — bring it round and we'll process while you wait, or we'll come to you for higher-value bikes and fleets.
Frequently asked questions
Will pressure washing damage my bike?
Not when done correctly. We use low pressure and never aim directly at bearing seals. The DIY mistake is using domestic high-pressure washers up close to hubs and headsets, which forces water past seals.
Will you re-lube the chain afterwards?
Yes — chain re-lube is included in every bike clean. We use a wet lube for winter and a dry lube for summer unless you tell us otherwise.
Do you do e-bikes?
Yes. E-bikes need extra care around the motor housing, battery contacts and display. We avoid pressure on these areas and dry electrical contacts thoroughly.
